Harold Mace 2002

October 10, 2024 - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Harold Mace, a leader in fire service education and accreditation. Mr. Mace played an instrumental role in establishing the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) during his tenure as Director of Fire Service Programs at Oklahoma State University (OSU). His leadership at OSU included overseeing Fire Protection Publications/IFSTA, OSU Fire Service Training, and ultimately IFSAC until his retirement.

Through his visionary leadership, Mr. Mace introduced the peer-driven concept of IFSAC and designed its governance structure. His efforts included securing OSU's long-term commitment to supporting the IFSAC system, fostering its growth into a globally recognized organization.

Mr. Mace was the first recipient of the prestigious Martin E. Grimes Award, IFSAC’s highest honor, given to individuals who have made an outstanding impact on the fire service worldwide. Upon receiving the award, he humbly expressed his gratitude to the IFSAC membership, remarking, "You are a dream fulfilled."
